Severe Asthma Research Program
A National Institutes of Health/ National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute sponsored network

The European Respiratory Society (ERS) has published an updated ERS Monograph on Severe Asthma. This new book is Guest Edited by Severe Asthma Research Program (SARP) investigators Professor Kian Fan Chung and Professor Elliot Israel, alongside leader in the field Professor Peter G. Gibson.

The Severe Asthma Monograph is comprehensive in its coverage of all aspects of this disease, including its definition, evaluation, epidemiology, diagnosis, pathology, treatable traits, clinical and molecular phenotypes, mechanisms, treatment and management. It captures the progress that has been made in the past decade, with particular focus on recent understanding of mechanistic heterogeneity, using analysis of various ‘omics platforms and analytical methods applied to well-defined asthma cohorts. It also considers how these advances have led to improved management targets.

The Guest Editors have brought together the expertise of authors who are currently working to solve the problem of severe asthma, amongst them SARP investigators Professor William W. Busse, Professor Wendy Moore, Professor Nizar N. Jarjour, Professor Deborah A. Meyers, Professor Sally E. Wenzel, Professor Eugene R. Bleecker, Professor Fernando Holguin and Professor Michael E. Wechsler. The Guest Editors have created a book that is likely to become a “go to” reference for those with a clinical and/or research interest in this chronic disease.
